Kathleen J. Aaser, age 75, resident of McVille, ND, died Monday, April 8, 2024 at the NCHS Care Center in McVille.
Kathleen JoAnn Berthold was born September 2, 1948 in Grand Rapids, MI, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Polak) Berthold. She grew up in McVille, ND, graduating from McVille High School in 1966. Kathy and Ove Aaser had one daughter, Janet, and they made their first home in Nekoma, ND. Kathy was proud to have served hundreds of people, whether it was at the school cafeteria, local café, or her happiest place, Joe’s Bar. In 1980, the family moved back to McVille, where Kathy made her home until her death. Kathy had become part owner of Joe’s Bar after her father, Joseph, retired. They owned and operated Joe’s Bar from 1980 to 2017 (37 years, WOW!). She enjoyed reading in the sun, traveling the world, flower gardening at her parents’ farm, her family, her friends from the bar, her dog Jackson, and of course an occasional Stroh’s or Old Mil.
Kathy is survived by her daughter, Janet (Jon) Nelson of Grafton, ND; granddaughters, Jade (Alex) Kisch and Jocelyn (Benjamin) Tucker; great grandson, Kellen Kisch; siblings, Fran (Ole) Nord, Ted (Janice) Berthold, Jeff Berthold, Jennifer (Elwood) Larson, Michele (Jim) Kapitzke, and Joey Berthold; as well as several nieces, nephews, and life-long friend, Darlene Reinhart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Berthold.
The Memorial Service for Kathy will be held at the Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home of McVille, ND, on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, rural Aneta, ND. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home of McVille, ND
