Lake of the Woods County (trfnews.i234.me) – A violent July 4th brawl in downtown Baudette has resulted in felony charges against Alexander James Zagone, 25, of Roseau, MN. He is now facing 3rd-degree assault for allegedly punching a man in the head and causing a dislocated shoulder, as well as a misdemeanor charge for fleeing police on foot.
Deputies responded to a chaotic scene near the Baudette Muni Bar after a fireworks display. Witnesses said Zagone and another man, Hunter McFarlane, were yelling vulgarities, harassing women, throwing beer bottles, and starting fights. When Deputy Hayes confronted Zagone, he was seen covered in blood, slurring speech, and acting erratically.
Victims later told deputies the fight began when Zagone flicked a hat off the victim’s head, made disturbing remarks, and punched the man unprovoked. The victim was transported to the ER with a shoulder dislocation.
Zagone was arrested after being escorted from the VFW, and both he and McFarlane were combative, vulgar, and accused jail staff of misconduct during booking.
