RED LAKE, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – We have an important update in the ongoing legal proceedings against Jennifer Stately of Red Lake, Minnesota, who is accused of the tragic murders of her two young sons. On March 15th, 2024, Stately allegedly stabbed her five and six-year-old sons and then set their home on fire. One of the boys survived the stabbing but later succumbed to smoke inhalation. Stately fled the scene with a third son, who was found in a severely neglected state, but she was soon apprehended.
The case, initially filed in state court, has now been moved to federal court. In July, a federal prosecutor issued a superseding indictment, modifying the original charges. Stately now faces multiple charges, including:
- Premeditated Murder: Charged with the premeditated murder of both sons.
- Murder in the Course of Committing Child Abuse: Accused of murder while committing child abuse against both boys.
- Murder in the Course of Committing Arson: Charged in relation to the son who died from smoke inhalation.
- Arson: Charged with arson related to the fire she allegedly started.
- Felony Neglect: Accused of felony neglect of her third son, who was found in poor physical condition when she was arrested.
An arraignment has been scheduled for October 23rd in federal court in Duluth, where Stately will plead guilty or not guilty to the charges. The outcome of this case is highly anticipated, and we will continue to provide updates as the situation develops.
