Jeanne A. Johnson – Obituary

Jeanne A. Johnson, 93, Grand Forks, ND, passed away Monday, February 24, 2025 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.

Jeanne Arlys Vettern was born August 31, 1931, to Milford and Enid (Leach) Vettern at Tenstrike, MN. Jeanne grew up and attended grade school in Belmont Township, rural Buxton, ND. She graduated from high school in Climax, MN, where she was active in Declam, plays, and was a basketball cheerleader for four years. Jeanne attended Interstate Business College, Fargo, ND. 

Jeanne married Edgar Johnson on September 3, 1949 in Crookston, MN. They lived and farmed in Belmont Township, Rural Buxton, ND. She taught Sunday School at Grue Lutheran Church, rural Buxton for several years and was also treasurer for the Grue ALCW for several years.

Jeanne was active in the Republican Party, serving first as Vice President of the District 20 Republican Women, and then for two terms as President. She was also a delegate to several Republican Party state conventions.

Jeanne was employed for several years as office manager at The Farmer’s Union Elevator in Buxton, ND. In 1980, Jeanne and her husband, Edgar moved to Grand Forks. Edgar died October 22, 1992.

Jeanne enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, and loved Sioux Hockey, reading, and going to movies.

Jeanne is survived by a sister, Maxine MacGregor, Zion IL; and many beloved and special nieces and nephews; grand nieces and nephews; and great grand nieces and nephews from this area: Cheryl (Mike), Ronn (Jody), Eileen, Wayne (Pam), Greg, David, Ryan (Jessi), Denise (Rod), Alex (Brandi), Brooks, Everett, Troy, Isaac, Noah, Sydney, Lauren, Hayden, Harper, and Talon ; step grand nephews, Chris and Cory; step great grandniece, Kailyn; and step great grandnephews, Mason, Austyn, and Ayden.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar; her parents; three sisters, Virginia Berg, Diana Kotecki, and Margaret Eisert; a nephew Mark Eisert; a grandniece and God child, Lisa Burger; and grandnephews, Lance Smith and Trent Smith.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service in the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks at a later date. Arrangements are with Amundson Funeral and Cremation Services.
