JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Scott County (trfnews.i234.me) — A tragic incident unfolded at 6:00 a.m. on March 28, 2025, when Firaol Abebe Merbratu (25) of Marshall, MN, was fatally struck by a 2011 Toyota RAV4 while standing in the left lane of southbound Highway 169 near Milepost 107.
The vehicle, driven by Nicole Lee Rogers (45) of Jordan, MN, had maneuvered into the left lane after observing a stalled Nissan Maxima on the right shoulder. Rogers and her passenger, Elizabeth Noel Estes (30), also of Jordan, were uninjured and wearing seat belts. No alcohol was involved on their part.
However, alcohol was confirmed in the pedestrian, Merbratu, who was not wearing any protective gear. He was declared deceased at the scene by the Midwest Medical Examiner. Emergency agencies included Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Shakopee Fire and Police, and Allina EMS.
