Itasca County ( trfnews.i234.me ) – Authorities in Itasca County say a raid at a Deer River home uncovered firearms, narcotics, and multiple dangerous exotic animals. The operation took place on August 27, 2025, at a residence on 510 4th Street SE.
According to the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office, deputies executed a court-authorized search warrant with assistance from the AIM Violent Crime Enforcement Team, Deer River Police, and other agencies. The search was part of an ongoing narcotics and firearms investigation.
During the operation, deputies recovered a stolen Glock 45 handgun, several magazines, and more than 60 rounds of 9mm ammunition. They also located approximately 1.57 grams of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and numerous exotic reptiles and venomous animals. Among the animals seized were cobras, a green mamba, a boa constrictor, tarantulas, and other species. The animals were secured with help from 4X4 Reptile Rescue for public safety.
Two individuals were arrested during the raid. They were identified as 39-year-old Cortney John Edstrom of Nowthen, Minnesota, and 34-year-old Casey Rae Huro of Maple Lake, Minnesota. Both remain in custody as charges are pending review by the Itasca County Attorney’s Office.
Sheriff Joe Dasovich praised the interagency response, noting that illegal drugs, firearms, and dangerous reptiles posed a significant threat to public safety. “Thanks to the diligence of our deputies and partners, these threats were removed from the community without incident,” he said.
The case remains under active review, and additional charges could be filed. More information on Minnesota controlled substance laws can be found at the Minnesota Legislature.
