IRON JUNCTION, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Multiple fire departments battled a large blaze at a recycling and salvage yard near Iron Junction on Tuesday morning. The fire broke out around 10:45 a.m. at Holm’s Recycling, located along State Highway 37, just south of Iron Junction in St. Louis County.

According to early reports, heavy smoke and flames could be seen from miles away as crews from several Iron Range fire departments responded to the scene. The Minnesota Department of Transportation closed southbound Highway 7 for safety while firefighters worked to contain the blaze. Firefighters used tankers and water shuttles to fight the flames throughout the late morning and early afternoon.

Authorities stated that the fire caused significant damage to the recycling facility and its surrounding equipment. However, there have been no reports of injuries. Emergency responders remained on-site into the afternoon to monitor for hot spots and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby wooded areas or other properties.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area while fire crews continued their response. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and more information is expected once officials complete their assessment.
