Icy Roads Lead to Semi-Truck Collision Near Grenora

On January 10, 2025, at approximately 9:06 AM CT, a collision occurred on the 8150 block of 151st Ave NW (Williams County Road 5), about one mile south of Grenora. The incident involved two commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) in a rear-end configuration.

Details of the Vehicles and Drivers:

  • Vehicle 1: A 2015 Freightliner truck operated by Hunter McLean, 27, from Williston, ND. McLean sustained serious injuries and was transported to CHI St. Alexius Hospital in Williston. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Charges: Care Required.
  • Vehicle 2: A 2020 Kenworth truck driven by Anthony Brumfield, 58, also from Williston, ND. Brumfield sustained minor injuries and was using a seatbelt. No charges filed.

Crash Circumstances:

Brumfield was traveling north on Williams County Road 5 and had slowed to execute a left turn into a disposal site. As he initiated the turn, McLean approached from behind, cresting a small hill. Upon observing Brumfield’s vehicle, McLean applied brakes; however, due to the icy road conditions, his vehicle slid and collided with the rear of Brumfield’s trailer.

Road and Weather Conditions:

  • Road: Ice-covered.
  • Weather: Cloudy.

Response and Investigation:

The North Dakota Highway Patrol, Williams County Sheriff’s Office, Grenora Fire Department, Grenora Ambulance, and Williston Ambulance responded to the scene. A section of Williams County Road 5 was closed for approximately nine hours to facilitate the investigation and clear the area. The incident remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
