Cass County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Horace, North Dakota man is in custody following the death of a woman from an apparent gunshot wound inside their apartment on Wednesday morning.
According to Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner, deputies were dispatched shortly before 8:00 a.m. to an apartment complex in Horace, just south of Fargo, for a report of an unresponsive woman. When deputies arrived, they found the female victim deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.
The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Derrick Lobbo of Horace, was taken into custody at the scene. He is currently being held on preliminary charges of reckless endangerment and child neglect. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says the circumstances surrounding the shooting — whether it was accidental or intentional — remain under investigation. The name of the deceased woman has not yet been released, pending family notification.
“The Sheriff’s Office is committed to conducting a thorough and accurate investigation,” Jahner said in a statement, noting that deputies and investigators remained on the scene throughout the day, collecting evidence.
No further details have been released regarding the presence of children in the home or the events leading up to the shooting. A press update is expected on Thursday as investigators review the findings from the scene.
