Early life and marriage
Olson was born on Aug. 30, 1960, in Thief River Falls. His parents were Keith Olson and Vivian Peterson Olson.
He was baptized in the Lutheran church as a child. He went to school in Newfolden. He graduated with the Class of 1978.
Olson lived in rural Thief River Falls until 1994. He later moved to Holt.
He married Susan Solberg on April 8, 1991. The wedding was at St. Pauli Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls.
Hobbies and community
Family members said Olson stayed active. He enjoyed bowling, softball, and wiffle ball.
He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf. He liked time outdoors.
He took pride in his yard. He worked to keep his lawn neat. He also enjoyed feeding and watching birds.
His family said he loved spending time with relatives. They said he valued time with children and grandchildren.
Survivors
Olson is survived by his wife, Susan Solberg Olson.
He is also survived by his children:
- Beth Comstock of Newfolden, with spouse Jeremy Comstock
- Nikki Olson of Grand Forks, North Dakota, with spouse Amanda
- Jordan Olson of Thief River Falls, with spouse Kayla Olson
- Samantha Cortez of Crookston, with spouse Armando Cortez
He is survived by grandchildren: Emily, Tristian, Isaiah, Hayden, Landyn, Ty, Everly, AJ, Whitley, Ruby, and Rowdy.
He is also survived by great-grandchildren Ryder and Aria.
Survivors include siblings: Vickie Bjorgaard, Suzan Larson, Kathy Peterson, Tammy Martin, Jimmy Olson, Kelly Stanley, and Kim Peterson.
Preceded in death
He was preceded in death by his parents, Keith and Vivian Olson. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Terry Olson.
Service details
A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026. The event begins at 1 p.m.
It will be held at the Comstock residence at 16938 380th Street NW, Newfolden, MN 56738.
