CAVALIER COUNTY, ND (trfnews.i234.me) — Matthew Alyn McCarty, 34, was arraigned on Thursday, Nov. 1, and pleaded not guilty to five felony charges related to online sexual contact with minors in Cavalier County. McCarty faces three separate criminal cases.
In the first case, filed on Sept. 19, McCarty is charged with Class B felony luring a minor by computer, alleging he believed the victim to be under age 15. In the second case, filed on the same day, McCarty is charged with three felonies, including Class A felony use of a minor in a sexual performance. The alleged victim was 15 at the time.
The third case, filed on Oct. 11, includes charges of Class A felony use of a minor in a sexual performance, among others. A sexual extortion charge was dismissed in this case.
McCarty, who was aware of the victims’ ages during the interactions, faces potential 20-year sentences for the Class A felony charges. His pretrial conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Feb. 20, 2024. McCarty remains in custody with a $50,000 cash bond.
