STEELE, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – Cleanup operations continue in Steele, North Dakota, after 43 cars of a BNSF train were derailed by strong winds, possibly from a tornado, on Wednesday night.
The train had stopped due to a tornado warning when the high winds struck, causing the empty cars to come off the tracks.
No one was injured, and there were no hazardous materials on board.
BNSF Railway spokesperson Kendall Sloan confirmed that cleanup crews were at the site on Thursday.
The National Weather Service is investigating whether the damage was caused by tornadoes or straight-line winds, as five tornadoes were reported across the Dakotas during the storm.
