HIBBING, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) — A person was taken to the hospital after a house explosion and fire Sunday evening in Hibbing, Minnesota.

According to the Hibbing Fire Department, crews were called to 2206 9th Avenue East around 6:38 p.m. Sunday following reports of a home explosion. When firefighters arrived, they found a two-story house completely engulfed in flames.

One person inside the home was rescued and transported to Fairview Range Hospital for medical care. Officials did not release details about the person’s condition.

The intense flames spread to a neighboring home at 2202 9th Avenue East, causing additional fire damage. Crews worked for several hours to contain the blaze. By 9:15 p.m., the fire was under control but not fully extinguished.

Fire officials described the scene as “chaotic,” noting that debris from the explosion was scattered across the area. Multiple agencies responded to assist with firefighting efforts and medical support.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet determined whether natural gas or another ignition source was involved. Officials are urging nearby residents to remain cautious and report any gas odors or structural damage in the area.

As of late Sunday night, fire crews continued monitoring hotspots to prevent flare-ups. The Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office is expected to assist with the investigation.
