HENNEPIN COUNTY (trfnews.i234.me) – In a devastating case out of Hennepin County, Latallia Anjolie Margalli has been sentenced to 285 months (nearly 24 years) for driving her SUV into a group of teenagers, killing 17-year-old De’Miaya Broome and injuring five others.

The fatal crash occurred when Margalli, aware that people were in front of her vehicle, drove forward anyway. Broome later died at the hospital, and others suffered injuries ranging from bruises to a broken leg.

A witness followed Margalli from the scene and tipped off police, who arrested her shortly afterward. In her plea deal, Margalli admitted knowing she was endangering lives.

Prosecutors requested a harsher sentence due to the victim’s vulnerability, and the judge agreed. She received 180 months for second-degree murder and five consecutive 21-month sentences for assault, totaling 285 months.

“This sentence holds Ms. Margalli accountable,” said Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty, honoring Broome’s memory.

Margalli must serve at least two-thirds of the sentence before being eligible for supervised release.
