Hennepin County (trfnews.i234.me)On May 1, 2025, a high-speed police chase in Hopkins ended in a violent crash that left two people hospitalized, one with a traumatic brain injury. Joshua Maurice Mitchell, 29, of Minneapolis, is now wanted on a warrant and faces three felony charges: criminal vehicular operation resulting in great bodily harm, fleeing police resulting in great bodily harm, and receiving stolen property.

According to the criminal complaint, Hopkins police responded around 12:35 p.m. to a report of a stolen gold Cadillac Escalade near Blake Road and Excelsior Boulevard. Officers located the SUV in a nearby parking lot, but as they attempted a traffic stop, the driver fled. Moments later, the Escalade ran a red light at 5th Avenue South and Excelsior Boulevard, colliding with another vehicle.

Mitchell was identified as the driver. He suffered a scalp laceration and a fractured right femur. His female passenger sustained a fractured left ankle. The driver of the other vehicle, who had been stopped at the intersection, suffered multiple broken ribs, a forehead hematoma, blood and air around his lungs, and a traumatic brain injury. He remains hospitalized.

The Escalade had been reported stolen on April 28 from the 3900 block of Humboldt Avenue South in Minneapolis. If convicted, Mitchell faces up to seven years in prison for the most serious charge.
