Hennepin County (trfnews.i234.me) – In an unprecedented political tragedy, Vance Boelter, 57, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for the assassination of Minnesota State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office on Tuesday, July 15.
Boelter is facing six federal charges, including the murders of the Hortmans, the attempted murder of Sen. John Hoffman and his wife Yvette, and the attempted shooting of Hoffman’s daughter, Hope.
“Vance Boelter planned and carried out a night of terror that shook Minnesota to its core,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson. “He carried out targeted political assassinations the likes of which have never been seen in Minnesota. We grieve with the Hortman family and continue to pray for the recovery of the Hoffmans.”
The indictment describes Boelter’s calculated stalking and targeted attacks as acts of political violence, resulting in what federal authorities are calling one of the darkest and most shocking events in recent Minnesota history.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office emphasized that Boelter will face the most serious federal charges available and stated clearly:
“Boelter will see justice.”
Further court proceedings are expected in the coming days. More details to follow as the case develops.
