Hennepin County (trfnews.i234.me) — In the early hours of Tuesday, May 13, 2025, tragedy struck Minneapolis’ Whittier neighborhood when 18-year-old Yamil Rosado Arellano was fatally shot while driving on the 2700 block of Pillsbury Avenue South.
Responding to multiple reports of gunfire at approximately 2:20 a.m., officers from the Minneapolis Police Department’s 5th Precinct found Arellano lying next to his vehicle with a life-threatening gunshot wound. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Arellano was driving when he was struck by gunfire, causing his vehicle to crash into a parked car. A female passenger in the vehicle was unharmed. Authorities believe an altercation may have occurred before the shooting.
Police Chief Brian O’Hara described the incident as “alarming” and emphasized the need for justice for Arellano and his family.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the official cause and manner of death. As of now, no arrests have been made.
