Hennepin County (trfnews.i234.me) — Two Minnesota teens are facing federal firearms charges after a wave of violent incidents at multiple high school graduation ceremonies across Hennepin County.
On May 30, University of Minnesota police responded to a chaotic shooting outside Mariucci Arena during Wayzata High School’s graduation. Two people had been shot. Police arrested Hamza Abdirashid Said, recovering a Glock 9mm pistol modified with a switch to fire fully automatic.
Less than a week later, on June 3, Amiir Mawlid Ali was stopped near the University of Minnesota en route to Edina High School’s graduation. He was found with a Glock 10mm, a 33-round extended magazine, and another illegal switch. Just days later, Ali was arrested again after a shooting at Burnsville High School’s graduation.
Federal prosecutors say Ali made jail calls referencing a “button”—slang for an auto switch—hinting at continued intentions for violence. Both suspects are in custody, facing up to 10 years in federal prison.
