Cold Spring, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – At least 26 workers have been hospitalized following a hazardous chemical spill early Friday morning at the Pilgrim’s poultry processing plant on Sauk River Road in Cold Spring, Minnesota.
The incident occurred around 8:15 a.m., with initial 911 calls reporting respiratory distress and chemical exposure, including cases involving individuals with asthma and chest discomfort. Dispatch traffic indicated the chemical may have been peracetic acid or a BPA compound, both known to cause irritation to the lungs and eyes.
Multiple emergency medical crews were dispatched, with overflow patients being sent to nearby facilities in Paynesville due to the volume of those affected. Emergency responders stated the chemical release has been contained, and state and federal environmental agencies have been notified.
This is a developing story, and officials are expected to release more information shortly.
