Hatchet-Wielding Man Fatally Shot by Crookston Police: New Details Released by BCA

CROOKSTON, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has released new information about the fatal police shooting that left a man dead in Crookston.

The man who was killed, 35-year-old Andrew Dale of Crookston, allegedly ran towards officers while carrying a hatchet on May 16, according to a BCA release.

According to a preliminary investigation from the agency, a group of officers encountered Dale while he was talking on the road with a hatchet. After the officers made contact with him, Dale allegedly ran at them.

Officer Nick Fladland of the Crookston Police Department fired his department handgun, striking Dale multiple times. The BCA said that Flatland has five years of law enforcement experience and is on critical incident leave.

Officer Alex Rudnik with the Crookston police deployed his taser, and a Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy fired less-lethal rounds at Dale. They have 10 and five years of law enforcement experience, respectively.

A hatchet was recovered from the scene, according to the BCA.
