CROOKSTON, MN (trfnews.i234.me) — A Fargo man is facing multiple charges after Crookston police allegedly found a loaded handgun, ammunition, and alcohol in his vehicle during a late-night traffic stop.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Polk County District Court, Rodolfo Ibarra II, age 36, has been charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition, a felony offense carrying up to 15 years in prison. He also faces three additional charges: Gross Misdemeanor Driving After Cancellation – Inimical to Public Safety, Violation of a Restricted License, and Fourth Degree DWI.
The complaint states that around 1:54 a.m. on September 7, 2025, a Crookston Police Officer stopped a Dodge Durango traveling 41 mph in a 30-mph zone on West 6th Street. The driver was identified as Ibarra. Officers noted the smell of alcohol, slurred speech, and bloodshot eyes. Ibarra reportedly told officers he had “a couple of Coors Lights” earlier at a bar and was giving his brother a ride home.
Police say Ibarra refused a roadside breath test but was arrested for suspicion of DWI. During a search of the vehicle, officers found a Bersa .380-caliber handgun loaded with a round in the chamber, along with a magazine of .380 ammunition, a loaded 9mm magazine, and additional cartridges. Officers also found an open can of beer on the passenger floorboard.
At the Northwest Regional Corrections Center, Ibarra later provided a breath test showing a .13 BAC. His Minnesota driver’s license was previously canceled as “inimical to public safety” and restricted from any alcohol use.
The complaint notes Ibarra’s prior felony convictions for First-Degree Burglary in Polk County in 2011, which legally prohibit him from possessing firearms or ammunition under Minnesota law. He remains in custody pending court proceedings.
