Polk County (trfnews.i234.me) – A Gully, Minnesota man is facing a four-count criminal complaint after allegedly driving under the influence of marijuana with three loaded firearms, open cannabis in his vehicle, and then attempting to bring marijuana into the Polk County jail.

Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy Titan Engen initiated a traffic stop near McIntosh after witnessing a gray Chevrolet Impala swerve across Highway 2’s centerline multiple times. The driver was identified as Edward Charles Davids, 64, of Gully.

During the stop, Davids appeared disoriented, aggressive, and confused—at one point incorrectly claiming he was in Bagley, about 25 miles away. Deputies observed constricted pupils, erratic behavior, and the odor of urine. Field sobriety tests were administered, but Davids was unable to complete them satisfactorily.

Davids admitted to drinking earlier and smoking marijuana at home. He was arrested on suspicion of DWI. A subsequent search of his vehicle revealed:

  • Three loaded and chambered firearms: a .243 bolt-action rifle, a .22 bolt-action rifle, and a .410 double-barrel shotgun

  • All three were not cased and were fully exposed in the vehicle’s cab

  • Open alcohol containers, the smell of marijuana, and urine inside the car

  • Loose cannabis product, not in a legal dispensary container

Davids was transported to the Northwest Regional Corrections Center (NWRCC) in Crookston. During a search at the facility, staff found 1.6 grams of marijuana on Davids person. Authorities confirm Davids did not have consent to bring marijuana into the jail, making it a violation under Minnesota’s contraband laws.

Davids was formally charged in Polk County District Court with:

  • Count I: Introduction of Contraband Into a Jail – Gross Misdemeanor

  • Count II: DWI – Under Influence of Controlled Substance (THC) – Misdemeanor

  • Count III: Cannabis Open Package in Vehicle – Misdemeanor

  • Count IV: Uncased, Loaded Firearms in Vehicle – Misdemeanor

He faces up to 364 days in jail and/or a $3,000 fine for the gross misdemeanor, and up to 90 days and/or $1,000 fines for each of the misdemeanors.

A blood sample collected at around 7:45 a.m. confirmed the presence of THC metabolites in David’s system at the time of arrest.
