Binford, North Dakota – A Griggs County man has been charged with felony domestic terrorism after allegedly planning to poison the water supply in Binford, North Dakota, with cyanide, according to court documents.
Case Details:
Authorities received a tip from a witness stating that Matthew Mark Bakke, of Binford, ND, claimed he had cyanide and intended to contaminate the city’s water supply before what he described as “it all goes down for him.”
Bakke has pending charges for manslaughter and disobedience of a judicial order, making his alleged cyanide plot even more alarming.
Search Warrant & Evidence Found:
Following the tip, the Griggs County Sheriff’s Office obtained a search warrant for a garage in McHenry, ND, believed to belong to Bakke’s grandmother. During the search, officers discovered:
- Three cloth bags labeled “Poison Seesta”
- Pocket gopher bait, which is poisonous if swallowed
Charges & Legal Proceedings:
Bakke has now been charged with felony domestic terrorism – material support, which carries severe legal consequences under North Dakota state law.
Law enforcement officials have not disclosed whether any cyanide or other deadly substances were found beyond the poisoned bait.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed as authorities assess the threat level of Bakke’s alleged plan.
