It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gretchen Ann Wilson, age 77, on August 12, 2024 in Fountain Valley CA. She was surrounded by her family and dear friends after her long battle with liver disease. Gretchen was born on October 17, 1946 in Grand Forks ND to Hilary H Wilson and Catherine (Katie) Ireland Wilson. She graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1964 and attended North Dakota State University.
She spent her adult working years as an associate and editor for Continuing Medical Education (CME, LLC) and specialized in faculty recruitment and content development for various medical programs.
Gretchen lived life to the fullest and was known for her love of her family and her commitment to those in need. She served on the board of the California Family Life Center, a non-profit that serves abused children of all ages, until she moved to Bainbridge Island, WA in 2009. She had a special bond with her beloved cats – Big Boy, Annie and Louie.
While in Washington she became a vocal advocate and spokesperson for affordable housing on Bainbridge Island. She was a frequent speaker on local radio shows and was recognized with a leadership award from Housing Resources Bainbridge for her unyielding advocacy.
She returned to California in 2020 where she resided with her daughter until her death. She is survived by her daughter Andrea Kanel Hall (Fountain Valley, CA), son Patrick Hall (Lakewood, CA), son Brian Hicks (Port Hadlock, WA) grandson Ryan Potter (Orting, WA), grandson Vance Kanel (San Clemente, CA), granddaughter Jessica Hall (Huntington Beach, CA), sister Susan Marcley (San Clemente, CA) and sister Cathy Rydell (Detroit Lakes, MN).
