Itasca County, MN (trfnews.i234.me)Stephen Michael Hendricks, 61, of Grand Rapids, is facing DWI charges after a bizarre late-night encounter on May 14, 2025, where he allegedly flashed his high beams at state troopers and later refused a formal breath test.

Troopers Robertson and Allen were on patrol on Crystal Springs Road when Hendricks repeatedly flashed his lights at their squad car. During the stop, troopers noted signs of alcohol impairment, including slurred speech and the smell of alcohol. Hendricks admitted to drinking two 12oz beers at Zorbaz.

He submitted a preliminary breath test (PBT) showing a .151 BAC. After arrest and transport to the Itasca County Jail, Hendricks refused to complete the official DMT breath test, citing that he “did not want to.”

He now faces:

  • Third Degree Refusal to Submit to Chemical Test (Gross Misdemeanor)

  • Fourth Degree DWI – Alcohol Concentration 0.08+ (Misdemeanor)
