Grand Forks, NDNew details have emerged regarding a violent domestic incident that occurred Tuesday night in Grand Forks. Authorities responded to a domestic violence call just before 10:00 p.m. in the 2200 block of 10th Avenue North, leading to the arrest of Evan Bohlman on multiple felony charges.

According to the statement of probable cause, Bohlman was in a dating relationship with the female victim when the situation escalated. He allegedly strangled her, causing visible bruising on her neck. The victim fought back and managed to escape the strangulation. She had dialed 911 and called for her juvenile daughter to help, but the call was disconnected. When dispatchers redialed, Bohlman answered, falsely claiming that nothing was happening before hanging up.

Meanwhile, the juvenile girl attempted to unlock doors to let responders inside, but Bohlman repeatedly relocated her and re-locked them. At one point, he shoved the juvenile into the entry door, causing her to hit the doorknob and sustain bruising and pain. As she tried to flee upstairs, Bohlman pushed her again, causing her to fall onto the stairs. The juvenile later answered a dispatcher’s redialed call, crying, before handing the phone to her mother, who confirmed the assault.

When officers arrived, Bohlman was found upstairs, but upon seeing law enforcement, he ran into a second-story bedroom and barricaded himself inside. He repeatedly refused orders to surrender, forcing officers to break into the room.

Once detained, Bohlman initially agreed to walk downstairs, but suddenly lunged at an officer and headbutted him. He continued to fight police and attempted to break free, requiring multiple officers to subdue him. Due to his continued resistance, he was placed in leg hobble restraints and had to be carried out to a patrol vehicle.

Bohlman now faces five felony charges, including:

  • Domestic violence
  • Child abuse
  • Interference with a 911 call
  • Preventing arrest
  • Simple assault
