the Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Department kicked off project lifesaver today in conjunction with the East Grand Forks Police Department which already had the program in place its goal is to quickly find people who wander folks who may have dementia Alzheimer’s or other disorders and being able to quickly find those folks is very important during our cold winters basically people wear a small device on their wrist that emits a signal if they go missing officers can now quickly locate them with this tracking device we’ve had three Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office deputies along with emerado police department Thompson police department and Northwood police department all had their officers or an officer that have been certified as an operator under the program so it’s not like GPS where you can live see where everybody is so every client wears a transmitter that has a frequency specifically to them in the event that they wander we take their frequency and we put it into the receiver and these receivers are directional receivers so once we pick up that signal it’ll tell us the direction the signal is in so we still have to physically get out and go locate the person there’s no live tracking or anything like that it’s just tracking a signal put out by if there’s specific transmitter if you’d like more information on all this East Grand Forks residents contact the police department Grand Forks County residents contact the Sheriff’s Department I’m Neil Berg reporting for i-news TV
