Grand Forks County (trfnews.i234.me) — A dramatic police operation unfolded Monday afternoon in Grand Forks County, as law enforcement surrounded the Islamic Center on 17th Avenue South, directly across from Red River High School, following reports of an armed suspect inside.

The incident began shortly after 3:00 p.m., with officers arriving and drawing their weapons toward the front entrance of the center as crowds gathered nearby. Witnesses described the heavy police presence and tension as authorities worked to secure the scene.

By 4:25 p.m., Lieutenant Benson of the Grand Forks Police confirmed that a person, believed to be armed with a handgun, had entered the building. Officers evacuated people from the area and successfully took the suspect into custody without any injuries reported.

A member of the Islamic Center expressed sadness over the incident, emphasizing that the Muslim community has deep respect for all people and has never experienced anything like this in their decade of living in Grand Forks.
