Governor Walz to Visit Rapidan Dam After Partial Failure Due to Flooding

RAPIDAN DAM, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will visit the site of the Rapidan Dam near Mankato this afternoon. The dam suffered a partial failure last week, caused by the flood-swollen, raging waters of the Blue Earth River. The powerful torrent swept away an Xcel Energy electrical substation and eroded the river’s west bank. This severe erosion led to the collapse of the Hka family’s home into the river last Tuesday, and also threatened the nearby Rapidan Dam Store, a beloved community fixture for decades. To mitigate potential downstream impacts, Blue Earth County purchased and demolished the structure. Fundraising efforts are underway to support the affected family.
