Thief River Falls – Gladys Hogenson, 91, of Thief River Falls,  passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2021 at
Warroad Senior Living, Warroad.
Gladys Delores King was born August 11, 1930 in the hospital in Thief River Falls,  the daughter of John Joseph and Ella (Husby) King.
She was raised near St. Hilaire her first 12 years and spent 2 years living at Wylie.  Her mother, Ella, passed away when Gladys was 7.  She attended school in Thief River Falls. Her father, John, then married Anna Rosette.
On April 25, 1948 Gladys was united in marriage to Lloyd Hogenson at Trinity Lutheran Church parsonage in Thief River Falls. To this union seven children were born: Michael, Marshelle, Mary Jo, Marc, Marty, Myles, and Murray. The couple made their home in an apartment in downtown Thief River Falls. They then moved to a small house on Tindolph Avenue and then to a larger home on Tindolph as the family continued to grow. The family moved to East Grand Forks in 1965.
While living in East Grand Forks, Gladys worked at Good Samaritan Nursing Home for 4 years and Western Potato (now Simplot).  In 1978 the couple moved back to Thief River Falls, where Gladys worked at the Turkey Plant for 10 years, until retiring in 1988.  Lloyd passed away on August 8, 2004.
Gladys was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, were she taught Sunday School, was a member of the Ladies Aid, and assisted with the Trinity lutefisk suppers. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary in both Thief River Falls and Warroad. She enjoyed making donuts, playing cards, fishing, gardening, taking care of her dog and cat, watching “Wheel of Fortune,” and she loved getting together with her family. Gladys was the Hershey Kiss lady at her home in Warroad since moving to Warroad Senior Living Center in 2017. Gladys and her family have deeply appreciated the wonderful friendship, care and kindness provided by the Warroad Senior Living Staff.
She is survived by children, Marshelle (Ray) Benson of Fourtown, Mary Jo (Russ) Olson of Minneapolis, Marc Hogenson of Grand Forks, ND, Marty (Linda) Hogenson of Thief River Falls, Myles (Camille) Hogenson of Roosevelt, and Murray Hogenson of Thief River Falls; 15 grandchildren, Steve (Peggy) Hogenson, Dawn (Phil) Johnson, Scott (Kira) Hogenson, Jamie (Rick) Schmidt, Kristi Suchoski, Eric Benson, Matthew Olson, Laura (Arthur) Christopherson, Dustin (Lara Henneman) Hogenson, Heidi (Kenny Ciak) Hogenson, Nicholas (Ally) Hogenson, Jacki (Brad) Borowicz, Anthony Cali, Jamie Cratty and Tyler (Sophia) Cratty; 27 great grandchildren; sister, Joyce Tobin, Fort Wayne, IN; along with several nieces and nephews.
Gladys was preceded in death by husband, Lloyd; son, Michael; parents; infant step brother, Gene Dean; nephew, Tom Tobin Jr.; and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law on the Hogenson side of the family.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Vicar Marilyn Grafstrom officiating.   Burial will be at Park Ridge Cemetery,  rural Thief River Falls.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a 7  p.m. prayer service on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service.
