Gerald Nelson, 92, of East Grand Forks, MN, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at the Valley Senior Living TCU of Grand Forks.
Gerald Myron Nelson was born January 10, 1932 in Grand Forks, the son of Theodore and Anna (Svedlund) Nelson. He grew up in rural East Grand Forks on the family farm and attended the country school just south of the farm. He graduated from high school at the Crookston A.C. He served in the army and the army reserves for a short period of time before being honorably discharged in 1957 to go home and take care of the family farm at the age of 25 after his father passed away. Gerald married Judy Sobolik on November 20, 1971, at Bethany Lutheran Church and they had one son Darren.
Gerry, as he was known to many, enjoyed ice fishing, deer hunting, working in the garden and of course farming. He loved animals, especially his cats. He served on the Esther Township town board and the Bethany Lutheran Church Council.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Judy Nelson of East Grand Forks; son Darren (Debbie) Nelson of East Grand Forks; grandchildren, Tanya Seim, Tyler (Mandee) Seim, Tanner Seim; and two great-grandchildren, Elsa Hedstrom and Alayna Seim. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Anna Nelson and his only sibling Margaret Meyers.
In Lieu of Flowers memorials may be made to the Bethany Lutheran Church Fellowship Light Fund.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at the Bethany Lutheran Church, rural East Grand Forks, MN. Funeral will be live-streamed on Gerald’s page at www.dandahlfuneralhome.com
VISITATION: One hour prior to service at the church
INTERMENT: South Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, rural East Grand Forks, MN in the Spring of 2025.
