Indianapolis, IN – George (Junior) left us on February 22, 2021, at his home in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Junior was born on March 28, 1950, to George and Mary Baker in Thief River Falls. He attended school in Thief River Falls, graduating with the class of 1968.
While living at home, Junior was working with his father as a heavy equipment operator.
In 1970, he married Joan Barnick in Thief River Falls, they had one son, Lynn Robert Baker.
While continuing to work with his father, he drove a mail truck route to Detroit Lakes, later to Bemidji. He then began working full-time for the postal service as a mail carrier.
In 1975, he left Thief River Falls to pursue employment in Montana and Idaho. While there, he met and married Tess Baker, later moving to Indianapolis where they lived for many years. He was retired from maintenance at IUPUI and was previously employed with Crestview Village.
Junior loved the outdoors. He and Tess made many trips back to Minnesota to visit family and spend time at his family’s cabin in Waskish.
He loved his grandchildren and was described as the funny grandpa by his granddaughter. His sense of humor carried him through 3 courageous battles with cancer, with “JB” always having a joke to tell at all of his appointments. He had a great love for his poodles and they were treated as his children. He never knew a stranger and will be deeply missed by many friends and family.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Tess Baker, IN; son, Lynn (Michelle) Baker, St. Hilaire; grandchildren: Landen Spiering, TRF; Trentyn Groslie, TRF; and Kaylee Baker, St. Hilaire; stepchildren: Aaron (Nickie) Reese, IN; Beth (Gary) Wayt, WI, and Will Henrickson; sister: Louise Cullen, Wannaska and brother-in-law: Wayne Harder, TRF; and many nieces and nephews.
