Garry Allen Ferman, 64, died on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at 3 PM at the Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be from 2 PM to 3 PM at the funeral home. Officiating: Pastor Justin Dietel, Thief River Falls United Methodist Church; and Military Honors will be provided by VFW Post 2793 and American Legion Post 117.
Garry was born on February 4, 1957, to Grover and Alice (Helle) Ferman, Moline, IL. As a child, his family moved to Thief River Falls. He attended school in Thief River Falls before volunteering to join the United States Navy in 1977. Garry was honorably discharge in 1980 and returned to Thief River Falls.
Following his service, Garry bartended at the V.F.W., Thief River Falls, for several years. He worked construction for many years, primarily roofing, until 2017 when he retired.
His nickname was “Bones” and he smiled when people called him by that name. Bones was proud of and enjoyed his garden, where he grew vegetables. Over the years, Bones loved to help with all the V.F.W. activities. He was quiet with a willing spirit and a desire to help others.
Garry is survived by his mother, Alice Thune, Thief River Falls, his sister, Virginia Stensrud, Thief River Falls, brothers: Jeff (Nancy Roberts) Thune, Prior Lake, MN, Sonny (Pam) Ferman, Camilla, GA, and David Ferman, Bradford, IL; several nephews and nieces: Stephanie (Robert) Finstad, Amanda (Fernando) Guerra, Steven (Kayla) Ferman, Kylie (Brady) Mummert, Arianna Ferman, and Tony Abbott; and several great-grand nephews and nieces.
He was proceeded in death by his father, Grover; step-mother, Pam Ferman; and step-father, Ernest Thune.
