Frazee (trfnews.i234.me) – A Frazee man is facing a felony charge after a violent assault left another man with severe injuries requiring multiple surgeries.
According to newly filed court documents, the assault happened early on the morning of November 8 in Frazee. Officers were called after a report of a badly injured man who had been attacked during an argument.
The suspect, identified as Justin Ray Schlehr of Frazee, spoke with authorities at the scene. Schlehr told investigators he had been drinking with the male victim while the two sat inside his truck. During that time, they began arguing. Schlehr admitted that the argument became heated and he struck the victim.
Medical staff reported significant injuries to the victim. According to the complaint, the victim suffered a broken jaw, a broken eye socket, and a broken nose. The injuries were serious enough that the victim required multiple surgeries.
Investigators documented the extent of the wounds, describing them as consistent with a violent assault. The charging documents note that the victim’s condition met the legal definition of “substantial bodily harm” under Minnesota law.
Schlehr has now been charged with felony assault – substantial bodily harm. This charge carries the potential for prison time, depending on the outcome of the case, criminal history, and other factors. Minnesota statute outlines increased penalties when assaults result in significant fractures or life-altering injuries.
The complaint does not list any weapon involvement. Officers reported no other suspects and no ongoing threat to the public. Alcohol use was noted as a factor in the incident, based on Schlehr’s own statements.
The case remains active in Becker County District Court. Additional hearings and filings are expected as prosecutors move forward.
