Polk County (trfnews.i234.me) – A Fosston man with a history of domestic violence has been arrested again—this time for allegedly slapping a woman and interfering with a 911 call during a volatile late-night incident on July 14, 2025.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Polk County District Court, Teejay Ignacio Alvarez, 30, faces the following gross misdemeanor charges:

  • Count I: 5th Degree Assault – Within 3 Years of a Qualified Domestic Violence-Related Conviction

  • Count II: Interference with an Emergency Call

Fosston Police Officer Mary Olson responded to a 911 hang-up call just after 11:00 p.m. at a residence on Cormontan Ave. N. Officers from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office also assisted.

Upon arrival, officers encountered Alvarez, who smelled strongly of alcohol. The alleged victim, identified as T.N., told Officer Olson that Alvarez had been staying at her residence for about 48 hours. She described the relationship as non-romantic and said Alvarez had been drinking excessively and sleeping most of the time.

T.N. stated Alvarez became angry and accused her of hiding his liquor, then slapped her and called her derogatory names in front of her daughter. When she attempted to call 911 using Alvarez’s phone—because hers wasn’t working—he grabbed the phone from her mid-call and ended it. Shortly after, Alvarez reportedly fell off the entry step while trying to leave.

T.N. showed a faded red mark on her cheek and told police she wanted charges pressed.

Alvarez admitted to law enforcement that he took his phone away during the 911 call. When pressed about this, he reportedly lowered his head and nodded, effectively acknowledging the action, while claiming T.N. could’ve used her own phone.

Alvarez denied hitting T.N. and claimed she was the one who assaulted him. However, his prior June 2024 conviction for domestic assault in Polk County—along with a 2021 disorderly conduct conviction and a 2015 underage alcohol consumption charge—factored into the upgraded assault charge.

If convicted, Alvarez faces up to 364 days in jail and/or a $3,000 fine on each gross misdemeanor count.
