FARGO, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – A plea hearing for former North Dakota Senator Ray Holmberg has been scheduled for early August. The hearing will take place at 10:30 a.m. on August 8 at the Quentin N. Burdick Federal Courthouse in Fargo. Holmberg, a Republican, is expected to admit to traveling to Prague multiple times with the intent to sexually abuse a child.

The case involves allegations of abuse occurring between June 24, 2011, and November 1, 2016. Details of the abuse have not been extensively disclosed, but Holmberg is anticipated to provide more information about his actions during the plea hearing.

If U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland accepts Holmberg’s plea, he will undergo a presentence investigation to determine his punishment. Prosecutors have agreed to recommend a sentence at the lower end of the 37-46 months guideline. The sentencing hearing will likely take place several months after the plea hearing. Following his sentencing, a charge of receiving and attempting to receive child sex abuse materials will be dismissed.

Holmberg, who is now 80 years old, served Grand Forks in the North Dakota Senate from 1976 to 2022.
