BRECKENRIDGE, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) – A former police officer from Breckenridge, Minnesota, has opted to waive a jury trial and filed his intent to plead guilty in a criminal case involving burglary and other charges.
Ethan Mahrer, 26, is facing charges that include first-degree burglary, third-degree burglary, interference with a 911 call, and a citation for violating a domestic abuse no-contact order. On December 17, 2024, at a court hearing in Wilkin County, Mahrer filed a petition to plead guilty. Court records indicate he will plead guilty to third-degree burglary, with the remaining charges to be dismissed. Additionally, he will plead guilty to violating a domestic abuse no-contact order. Sentencing is scheduled for February 11, 2025.
Court documents state that on March 8, Wilkin County Dispatch received a 911 call regarding an incident at a residence. When officers arrived, they reported a woman leaving the home who stated that Mahrer was inside, armed with a handgun, and making self-harm statements. A family member of Mahrer’s arrived and helped him exit the home safely. Officers discovered a loaded 9mm pistol in the living room and noted evidence of forced entry at two doors.
The woman involved, identified as the victim, stated that Mahrer entered her home, pointed a handgun at his chest, and made comments suggesting he intended to harm himself. She reported wrestling the handgun away from him and using a voice assistant to attempt calling 911, which Mahrer allegedly tried to prevent by covering her mouth. The court records indicate that no physical harm occurred during the incident.
Mahrer and the victim confirmed being in a relationship that ended on March 6. Mahrer told investigators he did not intend to harm the woman during the incident.
