Ramsey Co. Ex-Officer Charged After Armed Standoff
Ramsey County ( trfnews.i234.me ) – Court documents filed Thursday, Sept. 25, reveal new details about a tense six-hour standoff involving a former Devils Lake police officer accused of sexual assault.
Rey Hennen, 37, now faces a felony charge of reckless endangerment after prosecutors say he fired a gun in the direction of law enforcement during the standoff. If convicted, Hennen faces up to 10 years in prison.
According to a three-page affidavit of probable cause, Devils Lake police first responded to a 911 hangup call just before 11 p.m. on Sept. 8, which led to the sexual assault investigation. By early morning, deputies arrived with a search warrant at Hennen’s home, where he was reportedly holding an 11-month-old baby and threatening to shoot himself. Three other children were also inside the residence.
Hennen eventually placed the baby on the floor and went into the garage with the firearm. At around 9:30 a.m., as deputies attempted to arrest him, Hennen pulled the trigger. The shot grazed his ear, pierced the garage door, and traveled outside toward officers and nearby homes. Investigators were unable to recover the projectile.
Hennen was immediately terminated from the Devils Lake Police Department. He had already been charged with terrorizing and is currently being held at the Cass County Jail.
