The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has reported six influenza-related deaths during the final week of December 2024, bringing the total number of fatalities for the current flu season to nine.
MDH Epidemiologist Melissa McMahon noted that, following a slow onset, flu activity has increased, particularly during and after the holiday period. This heightened activity is expected to persist in the coming weeks.
Health officials continue to recommend vaccination, emphasizing that it is not too late to receive a flu shot. Vaccination remains a key preventive measure against influenza.
