Benson County, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – A St. Michael man has now been charged in federal court for the death of his brother earlier this year. According to federal court records, D’Angelo Hunt of St. Michael has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his brother, Isaac Hunt. Isaac Hunt was last seen in March of 2024, and his disappearance led to a months-long search by family members and federal authorities.
The new charges were filed after family members discovered during a community search on November 15. During that search effort, relatives found what appeared to be a human skull behind the residence of the Hunts’ father in St. Michael. According to the criminal complaint, family members reported that D’Angelo Hunt had been staying at the residence for the past ten days.
Law enforcement was notified, and the property was secured. On November 16, the FBI Evidence Response Team returned to the scene with a search warrant. Agents conducted a detailed search of the area. Additional human remains were recovered during the operation.
Investigators noted that clothing and shoes found with the remains were consistent with the items Isaac Hunt was last seen wearing in March. Witnesses had previously described his clothing, and investigators compared the items to security video captured at the home of Isaac Hunt’s grandmother earlier that month. The FBI stated that the shoes and jeans matched those seen on the footage.
According to the complaint, D’Angelo Hunt had a cut on his hand. He reportedly admitted that he and his brother had been fighting. Federal agents state that human remains and evidence of a violent incident involving a knife were found at the father’s residence. Federal law allows prosecution for major crimes involving serious violence on tribal lands. More information about federal jurisdiction in these cases can be found at justice.gov.
D’Angelo Hunt is now charged with second-degree murder in federal court. Additional hearings will be scheduled through the U.S. District Court system. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
