The driver, a 66-year-old female from Hebron, became distracted by a phone call, causing the vehicle to veer off the roadway to the left and enter the eastbound ditch. The vehicle struck a concrete bridge support and came to a stop.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained serious injuries. She was airlifted by Sanford AirMed to Sanford Hospital in Bismarck, where she was pronounced deceased. Three juvenile passengers, all from Hebron and properly restrained, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. They were transported to Sanford Hospital via ambulance.

The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
