What: Fatal crash involving a pedestrian struck by a passenger car

Where: 38th St. S at the intersection with 53rd Ave S – Fargo

When: December 23, 2024, at approximately 6:28 am

Road, Weather & Light Conditions: Dark/cloudy, street lamps, ice/snow-covered roadway

Type of Crash: Pedestrian struck by a passenger car

Agencies Involved: NDHP, Fargo PD, Cass SO, Fargo FD, Sanford Ambulance

Vehicle No. 1: Light-colored Dodge Charger

Damage: Vehicle has damage to the driver’s side front headlight, bumper, and quarter panel area

Driver No. 1: Alex Cruz, 23-year-old male

Pedestrian: 36-year-old female – fatal injuries

NARRATIVE:

On December 23, 2024, at approximately 6:28 am, a 36-year-old female was crossing 38th St S at 53rd Ave S in Fargo when she was struck by a northbound passenger car. The vehicle did not stop and fled the scene.

Witnesses and traffic camera footage identified the vehicle as a light-colored Dodge Charger, which fled eastbound on 52nd Ave S.

The pedestrian was transported by Sanford Ambulance to Essentia Hospital in Fargo, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) and Fargo Police Department (FPD) sought public assistance in identifying the vehicle. The suspect vehicle was located, and the driver, Alex Cruz, a 23-year-old male from Fargo, was arrested.

The crash remains under investigation by the NDHP and FPD.
