ELLENDALE, N.D. (trfnews.i234.me) – A fatal crash near the North Dakota-South Dakota border left one dead and two injured on Wednesday morning. The North Dakota Highway Patrol responded to the scene just after 7 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 281 and State Line Road, about 4 miles south of Ellendale.
The accident occurred when 63-year-old Vernon Dalstein, driving an SUV, rear-ended a pickup truck that was slowing down to make a turn. The impact caused the SUV to veer off the road and land in a nearby slough.
Vernon Dalstein was transported to a hospital in Aberdeen, where he later succumbed to his injuries. His passenger, 63-year-old Sherry Dalstein, sustained minor injuries. The driver of the pickup also had minor injuries but was not wearing a seatbelt.
Multiple agencies, including the North Dakota Highway Patrol, local sheriff’s offices, and rescue teams, responded to the crash.
