Moorhead (trfnews.i234.me) – A Fargo woman is facing serious charges after a violent hatchet attack inside a Moorhead residence earlier this month.

According to court records, Lena Deoliveira was arrested after an incident on September 5. Prosecutors have now charged her with attempted murder and aggravated assault.

A witness reported seeing a male victim asleep in bed when Deoliveira allegedly swung down with a hatchet. The witness told investigators he initially thought she struck the headboard after hearing a sound similar to splitting wood. He later realized the blow may have struck the victim directly.

The witness said it appeared one or two of the victim’s fingers were either missing or severely injured following the strike. He did not see the victim attempt to block the attack, suggesting the strike came without warning. The assault happened quickly, and investigators believe the victim had little chance to defend himself.

The witness also told officers that Deoliveira appeared disoriented, possibly under the influence of substances, at the time of the attack. After the incident, she fled the scene but was later located and arrested by law enforcement.

Authorities say the case remains under investigation. The victim’s current condition has not been released. Prosecutors are moving forward with the felony charges, and Deoliveira remains in custody pending further court appearances.
