FARGO, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – As Election Day approaches on November 5th, Fargo residents will once again have the opportunity to shape the future of the Fargodome. Last year, voters rejected a $140 million proposal to expand and renovate the arena, which included plans for a new convention center. However, the push for these upgrades is far from over.
This time around, voters will see two separate measures on the ballot. The first measure proposes renovations to the existing Fargodome, while the second seeks approval for the construction of a brand-new convention center. To fund these projects, Fargodome officials are suggesting a quarter-cent sales tax increase over the next 20 years. Additionally, the Fargo-Moorhead Convention and Visitors Bureau is advocating for a 3% lodging tax hike, to be applied for the next 25 years.
Supporters of the measures believe that effective communication is key to gaining voter approval. “It’s all about getting the word out,” said David Suus, President of the Fargodome Authority. The board is currently in the process of selecting a marketing partner to spearhead an educational campaign aimed at informing the public about the proposed renovations and the new convention center. Proposals from marketing firms are due this Thursday, as the board looks to finalize its strategy ahead of the crucial vote.
