Cass County ( trfnews.i234.me ) – Fargo Police say a standoff north of downtown ended peacefully Friday afternoon after SWAT officers took a Dilworth man into custody.
According to authorities, officers responded at 10:26 a.m. to a disturbance in the 700 block of Second Street North. Police say 39-year-old Derrick St. Claire entered a residence, caused damage, and refused to leave. He was known to the occupants of the home.
Suspect Barricaded
Residents told officers that St. Claire was armed with a hammer and a pocketknife. He then barricaded himself inside the residence. Due to safety concerns, Fargo Police requested SWAT assistance. At 12:34 p.m., SWAT arrived to serve a search warrant and help bring the incident to a safe conclusion.
SWAT Tactics Used
During the operation, officers deployed flash sound diversionary devices. These devices create a loud bang and bright flash to distract suspects and reduce risks for officers. Fargo Police K9 Thor also assisted during the search of the residence.
Arrest Made
After nearly four hours, St. Claire complied with commands from SWAT members and was detained at 2:40 p.m. Police report the incident was resolved without injuries to officers, residents, or the suspect.
St. Claire was arrested on an outstanding federal probation violation warrant related to the sale of amphetamines and burglary with a weapon. He was taken into custody without further incident.
