The suspect, identified as 55-year-old Michael Conover of Fargo, refused to leave the apartment. Police say he barricaded himself inside and ignored repeated commands to surrender. Due to concerns that Conover was armed, officers requested help from the Red River Valley SWAT Team.
SWAT officers arrived a short time later and began setting up around the building. Police blocked streets near the 1600 block of Dakota Drive North to protect the public. Residents in the area reported seeing officers take positions around the apartment.
At about 8:51 a.m., SWAT deployed a chemical irritant into the unit. Police say the irritant forced Conover to exit the apartment. He surrendered minutes later and was taken into custody without further incident.
Conover was transported to the Cass County Jail. He faces charges of aggravated domestic assault and resisting arrest. Additional charges may be considered as the investigation continues. Police have not released details about the events that led to the stabbing.
Fargo Police say more information may be released after formal charges are filed. Anyone seeking official updates may follow the Fargo Police Department or visit the City of Fargo website at fargond.gov.
