Fargo Saturday Afternoon: Heroic Red River Rescue

FARGO, ND (trfnews.i234.me) Fargo firefighters had to help get 1 kayaker out of the Red River Saturday afternoon, after a capsized kayak put 2 in the water.
two were rescued from the red river in fargo this afternoon when their kayak capsized this in from the fargo fire department fargo firefighters police officers and ff ambulance reported to a report of an overturned two-person kayak in the red river near dike east in downtown fargo at 3 15 this afternoon the kayak had capsized near the rapids a caller reported that there were two people in the water and neither had been able to get to shore by the time responders arrived only a few minutes after being dispatched a male occupant had made it to the fargo shore about 300 yards north of where the kayak capsized the female was still stuck in waist-deep water only a few yards from shore near the boat landing on the fargo side the combination of the swift current and poor footing made it impossible for her to get to shore alone firefighters pulled her to shore firefighters and fm ambulance personnel began warming both patients because of the cold water temperatures both patients refused further treatment and transport they returned home in their own vehicle uh the fire department goes on to say kayaking and the red river can be a relaxing way to spend an afternoon and see great scenery and wildlife while doing so please remember to wear your life jacket the current temperature of the red river is 43 degrees the effects of hypothermia begin within three to five minutes at that water temperature i’m Neil Berg reporting for trfnews.i234.me
