FARGO (trfnews.i234.me) – A Fargo man, Shaquiel Mendez, 31, has been convicted of conspiracy to tamper with a witness in a federal murder case. The decision came after a four-day jury trial in federal court in Fargo.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office reported that Mendez instructed two inmates at the Cass County Jail to stab a witness using a pencil. Sentencing for Mendez has been scheduled for April.

The incident was connected to the drug-related murder of Santino Marial, who was shot in August 2020. Another individual, Daniel Cisse, had previously been sentenced to 11 years in prison for a related attack on the prisoner.

An additional suspect, who pleaded guilty, is awaiting sentencing next month.

James Burnett, 31, has been charged with the murder of Santino Marial. His trial is scheduled for April.
