Fargo Man Avoids Additional Jail Time After Guilty Plea in Grand Forks County Correctional Center Protest

GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – Collin Jay Parisien, 22, of Fargo, has been sentenced for his involvement in a September 20, 2023, protest at the Grand Forks County Correctional Center. On July 19, Parisien pleaded guilty to a Class C felony charge of inciting or leading a riot in a detention facility and a Class A misdemeanor for wearing a mask during the commission of a criminal offense.

The protest, occurring in Pod 3A, was triggered by inmate complaints about the facility’s food quality and quantity. During the incident, Parisien was involved in disruptive actions, including failing to return to his cell, using sheets to block officers’ access, throwing wet toilet paper at a camera to obstruct its view, and covering his face to hide his identity.

Although Parisien’s felony charge was effectively treated as a misdemeanor due to the sentence imposed, he has already served 49 days in custody. He will not face additional jail time but will be under supervised probation for 18 months.
